Transport for London have commissioned a report on Traffic Light accidents by the TRL (Transport Research Laboratory).

Key facts from the report:

• In 2008 there were 5519 casualties at signal controlled junctions in the London area alone.
• From previous studies, over 1/4 of all accidents (including pedestrians and cyclists) were “principle right turn” accidents (involved a vehicle turning right).
• 1/5th right turn accidents involved fatality or serious injury.
